A few transcriptions of mine for guitar

Alex de Grassi

Turning: Turning Back. The full version from An Evening with Windham Hill and the Retrospective albums, with complete tablature, staff notation and fingerings. This lyrical fantasy still stands as one of the greatest acoustic guitar works ever. More than 20 years ago, this is what inspired me to begin learning guitar. This is my Labor of Love.

The complete score is a magical 365 bars, and initially took over 3 months of painstaking work in mid-2005. In early 2006 another 2 months went into moving the score to Finale 2006 format, writing out the voicings in standard notation, and clearing up some minor discrepancies between my version and the original recording.

To the best of my knowledge this is the only transcription of this masterpiece in existence. I have approached Alex de Grassi about the possibility of producing and publishing an "authentic" version. Until more info is forthcoming, you can download a 2-page peek here, and my performance of the piece can be found here.

Email me if you'd like to discuss this wonderful piece.

Gordon Lightfoot

If You Could Read My Mind
A 70s classic. I think I've captured both the varied fingerpicking and the rhythmic bass that keep the piece enthralling from beginning to end.

Don Quixote
This is great fun to play, though not as simple as it first looks! While this is not a note-for-note transcription, I've chosen to write out all the repeats in order to show the range of possible finger-picking variations.

Eric Clapton

Tears in Heaven
From the Unplugged album. Jean-Paul Cambefort did most of the work on this one. I just added the lyrics and the ending bit.

Everything But The Girl

Disenchanted
Lovely even without the saxophone. However, some of the chords in this version are quite challenging--especially if you try to sing it at the same time.

Nick Drake Time of No Reply
Man in a Shed
Jefferson Airplane

Comin' Back To Me
A haunting melody from the psychedelic 60s. A easy-to-play but rewarding song.

James Taylor Fire and Rain
William Ackerman Ackerman's haunting, pensive melodies are easy to learn yet highly rewarding to play.

The Impending Death of the Virgin Spirit
I have known very few pieces that can literally bring certain people to tears when performed in the proper time and feeling. This is one of them.

Processional
Since finishing this transcription I have learned that Will Ackerman actually plays the piece in the EAEGBC tuning. My version in standard tuning is still highly playable.

Passage
A delicate and beautiful piece, best played deep at night.
